HTC One M8 goes official with 5-inch full HD display, duo camera
HTC One M8 has been finally officially announced. The smartphone is a major upgrade over the M7 with new and improved features.
The smartphone sports metal unibody and comes with features such as
Smart Sensor Hub, Motion Launch and improved HTC BoomSound. The HTC One
M8 also has the much-hyped dual-camera set up.
“In 2013 we introduced the best smartphone in the world, but we never
stopped challenging ourselves and the status quo in this category. As
pioneers in mobile innovation, we continue to design and build devices
that will dazzle, inspire and transform the smartphone industry. Today
I’m proud to launch the most stunning, intuitive and advanced handset
that the industry has seen to date, the new HTC One (M8),” says Peter
Chou, CEO, HTC in a release.

The HTC One M8 has a 5-inch full HD display.
It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 on top. The smartphone is
powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.5 GHz quad-core
Krait CPUs and 2GB of RAM. It measures 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm.
On the rear, the smartphone has the new UltraPixel Duo camera
featuring BSI sensor, pixel size 2.0 um, sensor size 1/3”, f/2.0, 28mm
lens, HTC ImageChip 2 and 1080p Full HD video recording with HDR video.
HTC says its camera captures 300% more light, while the secondary camera
lens helps in detecting and separating backgrounds and foregrounds.
HTC brought a small revolution to smartphone audio with its BoomSound
speakers in the 2013 HTC One, and this year it is doubling down on its
effort. The new One comes with the same front-facing dual speakers, but
now, they are 25% louder, delivering even richer and cleaner sound, as
per HTC.
Still, from a sales point of view, it’s likely that Samsung’s Galaxy S5
will edge it, beating out more stern competition from the HTC One M8.
Even though sales of the 2013 HTC One were impressive, the Samsung brand
is still incredibly strong, and while some disgruntled consumers have
cited the Korean company’s lack of innovation with the S5, it should
still be enough to carry the flag. Sony, meanwhile, has struggled
somewhat to keep up with the rest of the field, and while the Z2 is as
good as its two main competitors in almost every way.
